Back at UTMB® Mont-Blanc!
The previous week was full of emotions and festivities at UTMB® Mont-Blanc in Chamonix, France. We were there to follow the 3 UTMB® Mont-Blanc races – TDS®, CCC® and UTMB®.
We started with the TDS® on Tuesday, one of the most technical race of UTMB® Mont-Blanc – 145 km and 9100 M+. It was marked by a tragic accident which lead to the death of Czech runner, Ondrej Tabarka. All our thoughts are with his family and friends. Erik-Sebastian Krovig from Norway and the Frenchwoman Manon Bohard won the TDS®. They both win 1000 UTWT points.
On Friday morning started the CCC® (100 km and 6100 M+) which was won by the Frenchman Thibaut Garrivier and by Marta Molist Codina from Spain on the women’s side. Both winners clock up 1500 UTWT points.
We ended the week with the pinnacle event, the UTMB® (170 km and 10000 M+). François D’Haene won the race for the fourth time and therefore become the most successful athlete in total number of victories. On the women’s side, Courtney Dauwalter was impressive. She won this race for the second time, improved her time from 2019 by two hours, set the women’s race record (22 hours 30 minutes) and finished seventh overall. Both add 2000 points to the UTWT rankings.
September: a month full of races for the UTWT circuit!
The 2021 season of the Ultra-Trail® World Tour continues this weekend with mozart 100® in Austria! The race has been postponed from June to September to allow the event to take place in optimal sanitary conditions. The race will start this Saturday, September 4 at 5 am and will see 600 runners compete over 108km and 5000 M+. The time barrier is set at 22 hours. The male and female winners will each walk away with 1000 UTWT points.
The next weekend will see three races of the 2021 UTWT circuit! Both the 100 Miles of Istria and Ultra-Trail® Snowdonia have been postponed to this date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, they join the Ultra-Trail Harricana™ of Canada on the weekend of September 11.
